Insulae Apartments: Modern comfort meets
authentic Mediterranean living
Insulae Apartments are located in a reconstructed stone house in the heart of Komiža old town. Tucked into a peaceful and secluded area, the house is still close to downtown, the harbor, the waterfront, the beaches and all amenities. It was fully reconstructed recently, retaining only its stone walls. The interior was transformed into three comfortable and modernly furnished studio apartments, one on each floor. The blend of contemporary and traditional is a distinct feature of the house. It is ideal for those who seek modernly furnished accommodation in a setting which preserves the spirit of the past and authentic Mediterranean lifestyle.
The heart of the house is the traditional courtyard, an outdoor living room with a wine lattice shade. This is a perfect spot to tune into that Mediterranean vibe. Sit back and relax. Grill some fish and sample the wine from the nearby wine cellar. Smell the freshly washed laundry. Listen to the chirping of the crickets, the sound of children playing ball in the narrow alleys and old men’s chatter in local dialect. Isn't this exactly how you imagined your holiday to be?
Insulomania: Sharing our love for Komiža
and the islands with our guests
As your hosts, we make sure that your stay with us is as comfortable and fulfilling as possible. Whether you want to explore the most remote spots on the island, indulge in local food or find the best secluded beaches, we are here for you. Literally. We live on the ground level of Insulae Apartments, so all you need to do is knock at our door and ask.
We called the house Insulae (Latin for "islands"), and named the apartments Biševo, Svetac and Palagruža after the islands close to Vis. This is our homage to the magic of the islands in general and the Komiža Archipelago in particular. We've spent years exploring the islands of Vis, Biševo, Svetac and Palagruža by sea and land, and we'd be happy to share our discoveries and love for the islands with you.
Beware though, it gets contagious! We've noticed that our insulomania and fascination with the islands does rub off on our guests. Many, like us, fall in love with the island forever, and keep coming back to our little world amidst the sea. We hope you'll also come and visit and discover for yourself the magnetic attraction of Vis Island.

How it all started:
Our Mediterranean dream come true
We fell in love with this unique 18th century Komiža stone house in 2005. Back then it was more of a ruin really, in desperate need of a careful restoration. It had great potential though — slim and tall typical Komiža house on four levels, with traditional courtyard, secluded in a quiet area of town, yet conveniently close to downtown, the harbor and the beach, it seemed like a perfect refuge.
So we decided to leave our busy city lives behind and finally make our dream to live by the sea (or rather, in the middle of it) come true. The idea was to breathe in new life in the house and transform it into a comfortable, modern living space without sacrificing its original charm and authentic features.
Over the next five years we dedicated our love, imagination, knowledge, time and money into making this dream come true. Since 2010 we've welcome many dear travelers from around the world and shared our home and dreams with them. We hope that we'll have the pleasure and privilege to welcome you soon, too. We look forward to your visit!
